Pool Renovation · Suffolk + Nassau

Bring your pool back to like-new. Or better than new.

Resurfacing, tile and coping replacement, equipment upgrades, deck rebuilds, and full reimagining of aging Long Island pools.

Most pools on Long Island weren’t built last year. They were built in 1985, 1995, 2005 — and they’re still structurally sound. What’s tired is the surface, the tile, the coping, the equipment, the look. A renovation is the right answer when the bones are good but everything visible has aged out of style or out of function.

What a Legacy renovation covers

  • Resurfacing — plaster, polished aggregate, glass tile, or natural stone finish over the existing shell. See pool resurfacing for detail.
  • Tile and coping replacement — waterline tile and coping removed and reset to current spec, with mitered corners and proper expansion details
  • Equipment modernization — variable-speed pumps, modern filtration, salt systems, automation, LED lighting, heaters
  • Deck rebuild and surround — replacing failed concrete decks with travertine, bluestone, or pavers
  • Adding features — sun shelves, tanning ledges, beach entries, integrated spas (where structurally feasible), fire features
  • Plumbing repair and upgrades — replacing failed or corroded lines, adding cleanouts, modernizing the equipment pad
  • Code compliance retrofits — VGB-compliant drain covers, modern bonding, GFCI protection where missing

Why renovate vs replace

A gunite shell, properly built, has a 50+ year structural lifespan. If the shell is sound, replacing the pool is rarely the economically rational choice — you’re paying for a hole in the ground that already exists. A full renovation typically runs 30–50% of the cost of a new build, restores the pool to current standards, and lets you redirect the savings into hardscape and outdoor living upgrades that didn’t exist when the pool was first built.

Replacement makes sense when the shell itself has structural failure — major cracks, settling, or shifting beyond repair — or when you want a fundamentally different shape than what’s currently there.

Our renovation process

  1. Site assessment. We come out and inspect everything — shell condition, plumbing, equipment, electrical, surround, deck. You get an honest report on what needs to change and what can stay.
  2. Scope and design. Line-item proposal showing every piece. You see exactly what each upgrade costs.
  3. Coordination. Renovation timing matters — most major work happens during the closed season (October–April) to avoid disrupting summer use. We schedule for your priorities.
  4. Execution. Same Legacy crew. One project, one number, one accountable team.
  5. Start-up and walk-through. Equipment commissioned, chemistry balanced, system documented.

Typical cost

  • Resurface + tile + coping refresh: $18,000–$32,000
  • Full renovation (resurface, tile, coping, equipment modernization): $32,000–$60,000
  • Comprehensive renovation including deck rebuild and feature additions: $60,000–$150,000+

Where we renovate pools on Long Island

About half of our renovation work happens in Central Suffolk — Smithtown, Dix Hills, and Huntington — where many 1990s and early 2000s gunite pools are now due for new tile, coping, plaster, and equipment. The shells are usually solid; everything else is dated. Typical renovation packages here run $35,000 to $90,000 depending on scope.

In the Hamptons — East Hampton, Southampton, Bridgehampton, Sag Harbor, and Westhampton Beach — renovation is often the right call when a recent home purchase comes with an aging pool that does not match the new property aesthetic. We can take a gunite shell down to bare concrete and rebuild the finish, tile, coping, and decking to current taste.

On the North Shore — Lloyd Harbor, Cold Spring Harbor, Oyster Bay, and Old Westbury — estate-tier renovation packages can run $75,000 to $250,000 when full equipment modernization, automation, and integrated spas are included.

Frequently asked

How long does a pool renovation take?

Resurface-only: 2–3 weeks. Full renovation with tile, coping, equipment, and deck: 6–10 weeks. Comprehensive multi-feature renovation: 10–14 weeks. We give you a real schedule at proposal.

Can you renovate a pool you didn’t build?

Yes — and most of our renovation work is on pools built by other companies. You don’t need to have been a previous customer.

Will renovation extend the life of my pool?

Yes — significantly. A properly resurfaced and re-tiled pool with modernized equipment and updated code compliance will give you another 20+ years of reliable service before the next major intervention.

Can you add a spa or new features during renovation?

Sometimes. Adding an attached spillover spa requires major shell work. Adding a sun shelf, tanning ledge, or in-pool seating is often possible during a resurface. We assess feasibility during the site walk.
