Spring Pool Opening · Suffolk + Nassau

Open the pool right, swim a month sooner.

Cover removal, equipment startup, water chemistry, and full system check by the team that knows how a pool is supposed to come back to life.

A bad pool opening costs you a month of swim season. Algae blooms because the chemistry wasn’t right. Heaters fail because they weren’t pre-tested. Liners get pulled because the cover wasn’t lifted carefully. A professional opening — done in the right week, in the right sequence — gets the pool clear and swimmable as fast as Long Island weather allows.

What a Legacy opening includes

  • Cover removal and cleaning — cover lifted carefully, debris removed, cover cleaned and folded for storage
  • Cover storage — folded and stored in your designated location (garage, shed, basement)
  • Plug removal and equipment reconnect — winter plugs, gizmos, and equipment isolation hardware removed
  • Equipment startup — filter, pump, heater, salt system, automation, lighting all turned on and tested
  • Initial water chemistry — full test, shock treatment, balance adjustment, algaecide as needed
  • Filter system flush — backwash, rinse, or cartridge cleaning depending on filter type
  • Visual inspection — liner, coping, tile, surround, pump room, electrical bonding all checked
  • Service log — chemistry baseline documented, any concerns noted

Typical cost

  • Standard residential pool opening: $385–$565
  • Larger or premium pool with salt system, automation, integrated spa: $485–$725
  • Estate-class pool with water features, multiple equipment, complex automation: $625–$985+

Cost includes the opening visit, startup chemistry, basic shock treatment, and visual inspection. Major issues found during opening (equipment failure, structural concerns, severe water condition requiring drain/refill) are documented and quoted separately before any additional work begins.

When to schedule

Optimal opening window on Long Island is mid-April through mid-May. Earlier than that and you’re fighting cold-water algae control. Later than that and you’ve lost prime swim weeks.

Our spring opening schedule typically fills by mid-March. Active weekly maintenance customers get priority scheduling — that’s another reason to be on a maintenance contract by April.

Frequently asked

How long until the pool is swimmable after opening?

Properly opened with full equipment commissioning, 5–10 days for chemistry to stabilize and any cloudy water to filter clear. Pools that were properly closed the previous fall come back faster.

Can you open a pool you didn’t close?

Yes. We’ll note any closure issues we find and adjust the opening accordingly.

What if my equipment doesn’t start up?

We diagnose on-site and quote any needed repair before doing the work. Some failures are obvious (cracked pump housing from freeze); others need diagnostic work. See pool repair.

Do you do single-visit openings or contract-based?

Both. Single openings are available; weekly maintenance contract customers get opening included or discounted depending on tier.
